Plotting the neckline and sleeve ruffles
Progress on the 1903 shirtwaist- pattern by Truly Victorian. I am itching to get this project with something finished, as there are several others I haven’t started for Costume College in July. I feel silly to spend months on what I will wear on the last day, but here we are.

On the right: pinked pleated ruffle test with white silk chiffon.
Here are my two tests for the top ruffle of the neckline of the 1903 shirtwaist I will wear under the black Edwardian gown. Shown here on my home computer keyboard- inherited from my Dad’s old computer. (Hi Dad!)

Of course the sheer silk chiffon looks better. Because of course it does. One blurry photo of a 113 year old gown to work on. I think this is as good as I can get. The photo is so far back that I honestly can’t tell what the undersleeves look like, though there is clearly lace on the collar. I don’t know what kind. I am making this up as I go, but using the best, correct materials I can find to do it.
