Worth evening gown project: the skirt.
The entire project is outlined here: Charles Worth Red Velvet Evening Gown
Starting with the pattern- I am using the Truly Victorian 1895 ripple skirt pattern TV296. https://trulyvictorian.info/index.php/product/tv296-1895-ripple-skirt/ Their patterns are simply marvelous- and on strong, reusable paper.
Materials: Deep red microvelvet, with a taffeta lining. Hemline interfacing with a black non-fusible interfacing, 2″ wide horsehair braid, and lace.
Note to self: microvelvet is cheap, lustrous, and even gently washable. Heck, You can even lightly iron it with steam to help the seams lay right. But, and this is a big but- it is so drapey and wiggly that it does not have anywhere near the correct oomph of the velvet that was used in 1895. You will suffer to get every seam to lay correctly if it is even the smallest bit on an angle.
Progress video: working on the hem.
Still working on the hem. A few days later, still working on the hem. a few days later….
