18th Century hair- first try

Side project for today- finally trying 18th century style hair- with pomade and powder.

Step one: pomade. This is essentially working a lighter version of Dapper Dan hair grease into my hair. I used a very small amount, just over a tablespoon probably, and brushed it thoroughly through with a boar bristle brush. The result is slightly shiny hair, not oily, but it feels a bit odd. slightly tacky, and not at all like it would want to stand in high curls. It does make my hair feel super conditioned, and no more dry ends to my over dyed hair. After letting it wait for a couple of hours, it is starting to feel surprisingly nice.

Now I am on step 2: powder. It is going to take work to get all the powder in, brushed in, and then more added. For this test I am using corn starch- I will invest in proper powder now that I have shown myself that it doesn’t feel super weird. At the time, ladies would completely brush out their hair every night, and add more powder in the morning, washing I think weekly or so. This is just like using dry shampoo! It feels just like the added fullness that a dry shampoo lends limp second-day hair, but moreso. Where I have the powder the most focused feels dry, kinda fluffy and like it will hold a rolled curl easily. I am happy about this- different feeling, but not icky. It isn’t that different than a good blow out, but probably much healthier on the hair as it starts with moisturizing it. I expect once I wash my hair (I have a meeting tomorrow and powdered hair would be weird) I will notice it feels nice and healthy.
