Met Gala 2019: Saoirse Ronan in Gucci

Part 2 of my padding the figure series. Here is part 1.

Here is a gown that shows how the use of color, and padding contribute to optical illusions in a modern dress. Why she has a hairdo as lackluster as that? No idea.

Adding curve with color

You can see by my rough outline above the curvy va-va-voom lines created by the use of color in this Gucci gown. On the left you can see the outline of her figure- she looks slim and comfortable, as the dress is doing the work for her in terms of curves.

Showing the angles

Now the fun part.

I have drawn in the center line and the angle from her natural shoulder to waist then hip. She is a slim woman, with natural curves. This proportion is one that many women share, totally realistic, no corseting going on.

Look at what those shoulders do! Va-Voom!
The hourglass shape and smaller waist is immediately visible here.

It is even more dramatic when the image is removed. Such a dramatic difference the padded out shoulders make to the look of her figure. These angles look like the those of a tightly corseted woman, but she isn’t tightly laced at all.
